Business Challenge
Scheer & Zehnder needed solutions that would help increase their productivity and efficiency. Like all legal firms managing data is a priority. How they backed up data was critical for the firm and how they shared it required the highest degree of security. They relied upon traditional tape backup solutions that required tapes to be manually changed throughout the day. This was a slow process that often impeded user's performance during business hours. In addition to cutting down on the time to perform a backup, Scheer & Zehnder also wanted to be able to restore emails and files up to five days prior to the current backup without having to catalog and search tapes. They needed to expedite how they stored and retrieved back up data without compromising security and reliability.

Scheer & Zehnder also wanted a more robust remote access method for their remote users. With today's technology they realized that they should be able to access more information in more places in a faster and more secure manner. Their users were coming in via an IP sec VPN that was not reliable. They needed to maintain the level of security that their current VPN provided but with faster and more reliable transfer rates. Scheer & Zehnder was in need of solutions that would dramatically improve their network efficiency without having to significantly beef up their infrastructure with costly hardware and connectivity upgrades.

How Unisoft Networks Helped
Unisoft Networks recommended solutions from Symantec and Citrix. Scheer & Zehnder immediately understood the benefits of the solutions we recommended. They were comfortable with the fact that we were recommending proven solutions from industry leading venders in economical fashion. Unisoft Networks implemented a disk to disk to tape solution with Symantec’s BackupExec for Windows, a new server capable of storing up 600GBs of historical data and a new tape library to eliminate manually changing the cartridges. A full daily backup was also created with backupexec and written to disk. Now, when the disk to disk job finishes, backupexec automatically writes it to tape therefore eliminating the slow response of writing directly to tape.

Unisoft Networks also implemented a Citrix solution for their Remote Access program. This Citrix solution is housed on the same server as the backup solution, which eliminated additional hardware requirements. Citrix also provided a more robust delivery method for remote users to access applications and data. It not only addressed immediate needs but it set a solid foundation for future growth and capabilities.

Unisoft Networks also deployed a Citrix environment by which remote users would have access to all the necessary applications and data. Citrix being an industry leader in application publishing and delivery was able to create an environment by which data could be accessed and utilized in a fast, secure and reliable manner. This had an immediate impact on productivity. The Citrix environment also enabled Scheer & Zehnder to explore new avenues by which they could collaborate and share information more readily without having to compromise security and reliability.
